As springtime delivers lengthening days and blossoming flowers, CLA singers fondly recall their summer in France. They yearn for outdoor meals with new friends and mentors, dusky poolside chats with glasses of sweet rosé, and winding strolls along countryside roads.
They miss their home away from home - Les Jouandis.
The cancellation of CLA’s summer in France makes these memories even more precious. For now, our collective recollection sustains the vibrancy of Les Jouandis, and, when we return, the meals will be grander, the chats will be longer, and the music will be brighter.
CLA France alumni share their fondest memories of Les Jouandis.
The magic of the setting is easily met by the music that is made there. There is no better place to immerse yourself in the glory of French music, food, and culture. I miss it every day.
Les Jouandis is the definition of paradise - with the serene backdrop of beautiful vineyards and green fields that surround the chateau. One of my favorite memories of Les Jouandis was morning runs through the countryside with my new friend and colleague. I felt more inspired and peaceful starting each day with the beauty that surrounded us.
I love the fruit trees! When we first arrived, the lady who owns the chateau came over to us with a basket of cherries that she had picked for us only five minutes earlier. They were absolutely incredible, and I felt so welcomed! The chateau grounds are just expertly gardened, and I couldn’t believe all the beautiful plants growing there: passionflower, jasmine, fig trees, strawberries, cherry trees, and of course, the roses. The whole place is nothing short of completely enchanting.
Living at Les Jouandis felt truly magical: the nature surrounding us, the positive energy of everyone there, and the endless supply of baguettes.
It’s hard not to feel inspired by a place that simultaneously shocks you with its beauty and makes you feel wrapped up in a hug. It’s pure magic.
The minute I arrived at the beautiful Les Jouandis, I remember turning to Glenn and saying ‘wow, this is the most perfect place. I am already sad to leave.’ We were immersed in all things French - the countryside, language, music, and food, all while forming deep, lasting relationships with singers and faculty. When I think of my time there, I can’t help but smile.
