Recent News
As it turns out, I just received some exciting news! I am thrilled and grateful to announce that I have been selected as the winner of The American Prize in Vocal Performance - The Friedrich and Virginia Schorr Memorial Award (women in opera). During the years since I first sang with CLA, I have also sung Ernesta (Un avvertimento ai gelosi) at Caramoor, Delia (Il viaggio a Reims) with the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, and covered Tancredi in the inaugural season of Will Crutchfield’s Teatro Nuovo. Last year, I was very excited to join the roster of Lombardo Associates to sing in Mo. Eve Queler’s 25th annual Bel Canto Opera Concert and to sing Prinz Orlofsky at the Wiener Kammeroper, as a result of the Vienna Summer Music Festival Competition. I look forward to performing in Maryland Opera’s concert “Bravissimo Bel Canto” this coming season.
What is your favorite memory of CLA?
There are too many to count! I loved the captivating stories of the great master Michel Sénéchal; Stéphane’s spunky spontaneity; Sylvain’s spicy wit; Ubaldo’s exuberance and vibrant voice; Donatella’s guidance and superb precision; Daniele’s exploration of characters; Glenn’s warmth, kindness, and perfect vowels ; and the sense of community that came from being a part of the CLA family.
What was your favorite aspect of CLA?
It would be hard to pick only one, but the performances and the faculty members are at the top of my list. CLA provided us with amazing performance opportunities. Participants sang in historic venues, beautiful theaters, and very well-attended concert series. Each singer had multiple opportunities to perform, and the repertoire that we sang was fantastic. The first-rate faculty members brilliantly helped us to prepare, and each singer would get a lesson, a coaching, or both every day.
How has CLA impacted your personal journey?
Working with the master teachers and coaches of CLA was truly impactful and helped me to hone skills that I needed in order to be an opera singer.
How are you continuing to create in this time of isolation?
I received an invitation to participate in a virtual performance and will be recording soon for that! I have also been posting short videos on social media. I sang in a plank position in one video and sang coloratura on the roof in another! This has been a very difficult time for all of us, but singers will keep finding ways in which to share what they love.
