What is your favorite memory of CLA?
Last summer in France, we sang a concert at the church right by Les Jouandis, and the audience was full of so many familiar faces. I sang “J’aime les militaires” from Offenbach’s La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein, and a woman in the front row was so happy and sang along with me the entire time. It is moments like this that remind us why music is so important. Feeling connected with one another through song is why we do what we do as artists.
What was your favorite aspect of CLA?
My favorite aspect of CLA is how immersive everything is; you have no choice but to learn and love the language. You’re eating, breathing, and singing it!
How has CLA impacted your personal journey?
I came out of both CLA Italy & France with a newfound passion for both languages. Learning a new piece became so much more exciting for me because I had acquired so many skills from my time at CLA. When you’re there, there’s a point in the program where everything about the language just starts to make sense and come together; it’s a beautiful “Aha!” moment. I didn’t realize in the moment just how much my growth at CLA would impact the way I learn and sing every Italian and French piece forever.
